Is A Wetsuit A Good Investment?
The swim is a small part of the triathlon experience; however, buying a wetsuit can be confusing.  Westuits will benefit you in 4 ways.  Buoyancy, warmth, energy expenditures and speed.  All benefits to the novice and professional alike.

Full wetsuits provide the most benefit, covering the body entirely.  Very appropriate for colder waters.

Sleeveless wetsuits provide buoyancy for the body, but able the athlete to feel the catch of the water during their strokes and may be more comfortable for heavier upper body types.

Shorties provide minimum coverage, provide some buoyany and allow for quicker transitions.

Most people dread their first open water swim, a wetsuit will give you more confidence in the water.  So spending the extra money may be worth it.  Take your time when buying, it should fit you like a second skin.  The neck and arm holes should feel comfortable, not suffocating.  Wetsuits also come in different thicknesses 3-5 millimeters.  Your choice should depend on where you swim and your ability.  Prices vary depending on quality and style.
